Law Interns Are Hot (For cheap IPR Protection)

Some believe brand piracy is a good thing because it helps educate people about how real brands look (i.e. not the way fake ones look).
For the rest of you fighting hard for intellectual property protection, listen up.
AmCham-China has recently published a report on its website about low-cost IPR protection by GE’s senior IP counsel, Jack Chang.
Here are some highlights:
- Hire law school interns to help
- Consider strength in numbers (consider joint raids and legal actions).
- Check out these free online resources: http://beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn/ipr.html and www.ipr.gov.cn
- Seek help from the Quality Brands Protection Committee
The online game industry is getting the strength-in numbers message at least.
Hong Kong-based CDC Corp. is spearheading The Online Games Alliance Against Piracy, The Wall Street Journal reported. The alliance itself is based in Beijing, and also includes Korean and Icelandic game makers. Lobbying and legal action will be its charge.
One particular irritation of pirated games: they frequently have more features than originals, the Journal reported. So while British fashion designer Paul Smith can stay ahead of his many imitators with pizzazz, games often can’t.
